The increasingly visible consequences of climate change, pollution and consumerism are here today.
More and more people are trying to change their lifestyles to ensure the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations.
From Tierra del Agua, as an Ecotourism Center, we work towards the principles of sustainability, trying to consolidate ourselves as an example of committed tourism in a rural location, respecting to the maximum its landscape and natural resources.
We are located in the heart of the Redes Natural Park -which covers an area of 37,803 hectares in the south of Asturias and was declared a Biosphere Reserve in 2001- and our main objective is to respect this wonderful environment, as well as to disseminate the environmental and cultural value of the area.
Since the beginning of the project, Tierra del Agua has shown that there is an alternative to traditional tourism. The trip is an experience in itself, and at the same time it favors the environmental, social, cultural and economic improvement of the area.
On the one hand, thanks to the landscape and architectural integration of the hotel itself, the use of alternative energies such as geothermal energy and the promotion of the Redes Natural Park as a privileged place for sustainable sports activities such as hiking and horseback riding “we have achieved a balanced and environmentally friendly development. While the promotion of the consumption of local and natural products, the support to local suppliers and entrepreneurs has helped to integrate and reactivate the local community of Caleao in the tourist activity itself”, in addition to having generated local employment, directly or indirectly.
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) defines sustainable tourism as “tourism that takes full account of current and future economic, social and environmental impacts to meet the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities”.
